A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS

ARE WE CRAZY?
Crazy or not, we love the simplistic RV life, living in a tiny house without the burden of a lot of stuff, and the freedom to travel around and experience our beautiful and diverse country.  A few years ago we made a plan to become full-time RV'ers.  April 2016 we sold our Bass Lake home and moved to the cabin on Long Lake in Comstock, WI with the plan to fix and sell the property.  Although the cabin didn't sell, we are fortunate to have it rented for a year.

After a few stressful, exciting and crazy weeks of donating, selling, giving away, and deciding what to put in storage, the massive amount of stuff accumulated over the years was dispersed and we moved into the RV on May 23rd.  At 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning we couldn't stop giggling as we drove away from Long Lake through the green rolling hills of Wisconsin on our way to summer in America's last frontier...ALASKA!  So, a new chapter begins!

A BUMPY START - May 23 - 26
Our first stop was for lunch at a restaurant in Luck, WI.  As we drove and bounced through the pothole filled parking lot we bottomed out.  One of the safety cables from the tow Jeep to the RV broke; not a big deal, we can get a new one.

The refrigerator runs of 2 large batteries when we aren't hooked up to electric; it quit working.  We thought it was a problem with the batteries or the inverter, but we'd wait to figure it out when we got to our daughter Amy's place in Grand Rapids, MN.

Shortly after getting on I-35 west of Grantsburg, WI, I gasped as the passenger side mirror came loose and fell down, hanging on by a couple of wires.  Jim pulled over, McGyver'ed the mirror with some electrical tape and we continued on our way.
A little electrical tape did the job.
Arriving at Amy and Dana's without further incident, we began to diagnose the refrigerator problem as well as figuring out where to get safety cables and parts for the mirror.  As we suspected, the problem with the refrigerator was the batteries; they both had frozen over the winter and were cracked.  Dana got on the computer and phone, and before the day was done we had parts ordered and 2 new batteries installed.
"OK, I see problem"
While waiting for the parts to arrive, we had a chance to decompress, relax, get organized and purge more stuff we don't need.  The best part of the delay was spending more time with Amy, Dana, Addy and Bella.   We're grateful for the beautiful camping spot at their home on Prairie Lake, as well as their help and support.
Prairie Lake

Here fishy, fishy.
May 26
Only one of the two mirror parts we needed was delivered, so my handy husband fixed it by using the new part as well a part from the broken mirror.  With repairs completed, we got on our way.  Let the adventures begin!
"See ya"
